Sousaku-Kaga-nuri is a creative variation of Negoro-nuri, originating at Negoro-ji Temple in Wakayama Prefecture.

Negoro-nuri is a lacquerware in which black lacquer is applied as the base coat, and vermillion lacquer is the top coat.

This is a beautiful gem with an expression of abrasion-like, in which the underlying black lacquer looks like scratches when the vermillion has worn off.
The finish of polished Japanese lacquer gives this piece a richer texture.
