This is a collaboration between SAILOR and the SATELLITE CRAYON PROJECT, which creates "crayons of ocean" from the colors of the sea captured by satellite imagery.
The Colors of Eleuthera Island
This fountain pen is a stunning reproduction of the colors of the sea west of Eleuthera Island, Bahamas, with colors precisely extracted from the coordinates 24.98503, -76.36213. The pen's body and finials use a unique color palette that reflects the local sea and the ooids (small, spherical grains of calcium carbonate) found there.
The Bahamas are a collection of nearly 700 islands and 2,400 large rocks, mostly formed from coral reefs. The pen's beautiful colors are a direct result of the local geography: a "Tongue of the Ocean," where shallow coral reefs abruptly drop into great depths. The complex currents created by this difference in depth, along with the pure white sand rich in ooids, create the beautiful patterns and vivid colors you see in the pen's design.
SAILOR/SATELLITE CRAYON PROJECT
From the 12 colors in the "ocean crayons" collection, three were chosen for this fountain pen and ink collaboration: Eleuthera Island, Amami Oshima (the color of the sea off Japan's Amami Oshima), and Syvash (the color of the shallow, briny waters of the Sea of Azov).
Each pen and ink set allows you to enjoy not just the beautiful colors of a real-world ocean but also the story of the place it came from.
