Calvados is considered one of the three great brandies of the world, along with Cognac and Armagnac.

It is a distilled spirit made of apples from the Normandy region in France, and despite its high alcohol content of over 40%, it is characterized by its mellow apple aroma and rich flavor.

This iron gall ink “Calvados” was inspired by the color of this spirit.
This is an ink that writes a bright orange, but turns brown as it is oxidized by the air. It is as if the apple juice is turing into Calvados brandy in front of your eyes...

Getting to enjoy the changing color over time is what makes iron gall inks fun and unique.

[What is iron gall ink?] It is a water-soluble ink that contains a combination of tannin, a plant-derived component found in tea leaves, and iron. These materials oxidize when they are exposed to air, giving them water and light resistance for greater durability. The oxidization process also causes a color change, gradually turning the vivid color of the ink to a deeper blackish hue over time. Please enjoy the process of this color change.

[About the Calvados glass pen] Ryu Ota of Synchronicity Glass Art, is a pioneer of Pyrex glass art in Japan. The glass pens he creates, are each a work of art.

[About Tulip Noir] This notepad is made of Yupo paper with a special treatment to allow for the ink to fix on the page. Yupo paper is made of polypropylene, an infinitely thin plastic that is loved by many fountain pen users for its unique writing feel and ink coloring. Since no ink is absorbed into the page, all pigment remains on the surface of the page for an extra vivid color rendition. The Tulip Noir is a collaboration between BUNGUBOX and Pen Saloon using this Yupo paper in A5 size.
